Grenade lobbed at house of sarpanch in Pulwama

Srinagar: Unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade at the house of newly elected unopposed sarpanch in Tral in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, where similar attack was made at the house of candidate who had filed nomination papers for panch on Saturday night, official sources said.

They said a grenade was hurled at the residence of Rajinder Singh at Khasipora, Tral, in Pulwama. Singh was elected unopposed as sarpanch. However, the grenade exploded without causing any damage, they said, adding that panic gripped the entire village after hearing the sound of the blast.

Official sources said that unidentified persons hurled a grenade at the residence of one Surinder Singh in village Devar at Tral in Pulwama on Saturday. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded outside. “No one was injured in the attack,” they said, adding that Singh has filed nomination papers for contesting Panchayat elections for the post of a Panch.
