Train services suspended in south Kashmir over security reasons

Srinagar: Train service remained suspended for security reasons the third day on Saturday in south Kashmir, where six militants were killed in an encounter by government forces in Anantnag on Friday.

However, train service was normal in north Kashmir, a senior railway official said.

He said a fresh advisory was received from the administration, including police not to resume train service in south Kashmir on Saturday also.

He said therefore no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

Train service was suspended on Thursday when Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a strike against the killing of senior separatist leader Hafizullah Mir by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Anantnag.

However, train service was resumed on Friday. But after few train runs, the service was again suspended in south Kashmir for security reasons following the killing of six militants in Anantnag.
