Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and goverment forces in Sekipora area of Bijbhera in Southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district in the wee hours on Friday.

“Exchange of fire between Security force and #terrorists at #Bijbehara District #Anantnag. Security forces on Job. Details will follow. @JmuKmrPolice,” tweeted Kashmir Police.

News gathering agency GNS reported that the gunfight broke out after a joint team of army’s 3RR and SOG Anantnag launched a cordon and search operation in the area following inputs about presence of militants.

“As soon as goverment forces intensified searches towards suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon goverment forces triggering an encounter,” it said.
