Srinagar: Expressing shock that credentials of political parties were being questioned, President, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti stated that “all mainstream parties in JK have  taken grave risks to bridge the trust deficit that exists between people of the state vis a vis the country”.

Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mehbooba wrote:

“Both PDP and NC (National Conference) have been allies of BJP at some point. Strange that our credentials werent questioned then,” she tweeted.

“But just because our MLAs had enough integrity to stand up to your failed attempts of defection, they are now anti nationalistic?” Mehbooba questioned.

She wrote that she was shocked to see baseless allegations against mainstream parties in JK following dictates from Pakistan levelled by Bhartiya Janta Party General Secreatry, Ram Madhav.

“Sad to see what the political discourse of our country has been reduced to. How does one define a party’s nationalistic credentials? Nationalistic and patriotic only if you are with the Centre and  Pakistan sponsored and anti nationalistic otherwise

India is a great country and democracy is a battle of ideas. Lets not make a mockery of those very institutions and people,” she wrote in a series of tweets.

“We had aligned with the BJP to change this pernicious mindset. Undoubtedly Pakistan has an impact on the situation in J&K. But its upto our country to change that from negative to positive and tread the path that was taken by Vajpayee ji”.

The high pitched drama of government formation reached its climax when NC, PDP and Congress joined hands.

PDP president shot a letter to the governor, wherein she sought her convenience for staking claim in the government formation as she claimed she has support of 56 members.

Sajjad lone also shot a letter to the governor claiming he will form the government as he had the support of BJP and 18 more legislators.

The governor SP Malik finally dissolved the assembly and paved way for Presidents rule citing unstable government, horse trading as prime reasons for doing so.

All along BJP leaders, including the Madhav, claimed that PDP and NC came together on the directions of Pakistan- a claim which enraged both the regional parties.
