Food supplies dept takes Public Information Officer for a ride, doesn’t bother to respond

Srinagar: Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs department of Jammu and Kasmir has failed to respond to an RTI seeking details about the stock of empty rice bags with the department.

The RTI filed through the Public Information Officer Nazir Ahmad Mir has not been responded to despite three reminders to the directorate by the PIO to submit the details.

The applicant of the RTI had sought a closing balance of empty rice bags with the department almost three months ago.

Empty granny bags scam is considered to be one of the biggest scams in FCSCA department of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pertinently on Wednesday, an official of the same department was sent to jail for three years after a court convicted him for embezzlement of rice bags.

Judicial magistrate in Pampore court, Fozia Paul sentenced Abdul Majid Khan to undergo imprisonment for three years and pay a fine of Rs 5000. Khan would have to spend an additional six months in jail on a failure to pay the fine.
