Srinagar: Two student groups clashed with each other at Srinagar’s National Institute of Technology (NIT), following which non-local students staged a protest on Friday inside the campus.

Official sources said that two non-local and some local students entered into a heated argument over some issue on Thursday night. “The argument escalated and the two groups clashed with each other,” they said.

Following the clashes, the non-local students boycotted classes and staged a protest on Friday inside the campus.

“The students ended the protest after Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah visited the campus and assured the students that an impartial inquiry will be held and people responsible for the clashes will be punished,” they added.

Meanwhile, a police official said that they are investigating the incident.
