200 militants killed, 50 arrested in 2018 in Jammu and Kashmir: Reports

Srinagar: 200 militants have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir so far in 2018, media reports said on Wednesday among whom 109 were killed in southern Kashmir and 45 in northern Kashmir.

India Today reported that while most of the slain militants belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the highest number were killed in southern Kashmir. 

Among the major operations was the killing of Abu Mateen and Abu Hamaas in March 2018, which was followed by that of Sameer Ahmad Bhat alias Sameer Tiger in Shopian on April 1.

Over the next few months, top militant commanders like Saddam Paddar, Abu Qasim and Abu Maviya were killed in May, June and July respectively. Last month witnessed the killings of 27 militants, which included Mannan Wani, Mehrajudin Bangroo and Sabzar Ahmad Sofi. In addition, 50 militants were apprehended while five militants surrendered before the forces.

Last year the figure was 200 as on November 30, the report said.
