BJP announces its candidates for Mayor, Deputy Mayor posts in Jammu

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP on Saturday announced its candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation elections.

“After a threadbare discussion with party cadre, the candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor were announced this afternoon,” party sources here said.

They said that senior leader and treasurer Chander Mohan Gupta will be party’s candidate for Mayor while former Mahila Morcha president Purnima Sharma will be Deputy candidate.

Meanwhile, the nominations will be filed from 1000 hours to 1600 hours today and the elections to these posts will be held on November 15.

Party sources said that Chander Mohan Gupta is a senior leader and was appointed as treasurer in July.

Ms Purnima Sharma is former J&K BJP Mahila Morcha president.

The election of Civic Bodies were held in the state after a gap of 13 years.

BJP also had first ever Mayor in its kitty from Jammu, followed by Congress and NC having Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the next term.

Gupta won as corporator from Ward Number 33 for second time and Sharma has won from Ward Number 1 in the recently concluded Urban Local Bodies Polls.

BJP in Jammu Municipal Corporation won 43 seats out of 75 wards while in Municipal Committees of the district, the party won 48 seats.
