Jaish-e-Mohammad militant killed in Tral gunfight: Police

Cop also injured

November: At least one militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit was killed while one policeman was injured during a gunfight with government forces in South Kashmir’s Tral area.

The police said following an intelligence lead about the presence of militants, forces laid siege of Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral in Awantipora.

The police said as soon the search operations started, the hiding militants opened fire upon the search party, adding, the forces retaliated back, triggering an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, the police said one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter.

The police said the forces recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from the place of encounter.

The police said that the slain militant was identified as a Pakistani national, Anwar.

He was affiliated with the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit, the police said.

The police claimed that the slain was identified in attacks on security establishments.

The police said one cop was also injured during the gunfight. It said that the cop sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable, police said.

The police has requested the citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
