Srinagar: Noted Indian journalist, Rana Ayyub, has been declared “Most Resilient Journalist” for 2018. The award, considered as one of the prestigious awards in world of journalism, was presented to her at Peace Palace, The Hague, Netherlands on Saturday.

“Most Resilient Journalist” is presented to a journalist who has demonstrated extra-ordinary strength of character, courage and perseverance in reporting the news.

The event is an annual affair and is organized by “Free Press Unlimited” under “Free Press Live” theme focusing on the impunity of crimes against journalists.

The award was presented to Ayyub by Foreign Affairs Minister of Kingdom of The Netherlands, Stef Blok, who in his congratulatory message to Mumbai-born Ayyub remarked, “when opinions collide, the truth will arise. But this requires an independent, diverse media landscape, where minority voices are heard. Honored to award @RanaAyyub the Most Resilient Journalist Award on International Day to #EndImpunity for Crimes against Journalists.”

In recent times, Ayyub was meted out with online hate crime on social media following which an agency of United Nations had to ask government of India to ensure security of the journalist. She is a regular contributor for NDTV, London based The Guardian and US based The Washington Post.

The award contains a cash prize of 15000 Euros besides a memento and certificate.
