Despite restrictions thousands attend funeral prayers of slain Sopore militant

Srinagar: Despite stringent restrictions thousands of people on Friday turned up at the funeral prayers of slain militant in Sopore town of a northern Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

Naseer Ahmad Teli of Arampora village in Sopore was killed in a brief shootout with government forces at Sagipora village of Handwara late last night.

Reports said that thousands of people assembled in Armpora and marched through the streets amid massive pro freedom slogans.

Meanwhile reports said that forces fired tearsmoke shells and pellet fires at the mourners who had assembled for the funeral prayers.

They said that youths pelted stones on forces deployed heavily in the area, who lobbed tear gas shells triggering clashes.

Meanwhile, curfew like restrictions have been imposed in and around Sopore town and internet services have been suspended to prevent protests.
