Srinagar: The historic 86-km-long Mughal road was closed due to slippery road condition on Wednesday while only one-way traffic will continue on the national highway connecting Kashmir valley with Jammu.
However, two-way traffic will ply on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national with some restrictions.
“We have suspended all traffic movement on the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch,” a traffic police official told UNI.
The road is slippery due to below freezing temperature during the night, he said, adding that traffic will be resumed only after road becomes safe for journey.
‘We will get latest information at 1130 hrs about the condition of the road,’ he said, adding accordingly, decision will be taken whether to allow vehicles are not.
Hundreds of vehicles, including trucks carrying essentials for Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, besides passengers, left different parts of Jammu early on Wednesday morning, he said.
He said no vehicle, including security force convoy, will be allowed from Kashmir to Jammu.
He said due to road widening and repair work besides landslides occurring almost daily, it has been decided to allow only one-way traffic on the highway to avoid traffic jam and accidents.
