Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday arrested Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and detained him at SP office Hazratbal.

Mirwaiz, who was under house detention tried to march towards city centre Lalchowk where he was scheduled toparticipate in a protest sit-in against Kulgam killings.

Witnesses said that as Mirwaiz came out of his Nigeen residence, a posse of police barred him from moving ahead and bundled him into a police vehicle. He was later taken to SP office Hazratbal and detained there.
