Kulgam: 7th civilian laid to rest amid massive ‘pro-freedom’ protests

Srinagar: After the slain six civilians who were killed in a blast in Kulgam on Sunday, one more youth has succumbed to injuries in a Srinagar hospital.

The slain has been identified as Javid Ahmad Lone.

While the other six were laid to rest on Sunday amid massive participation people in their funerals, Lone was buried on Monday amid pro-freedom slogans at Hawoora, his native village in Kulgam district.

Javid was identified late on Sunday and his body remained in the mortuary for several hours before his family identified him.

Witnesses said that thousands of people attended Javid’s funeral early Monday morning. He was taken in a procession towards graveyard amid pro-freedom slogans. Later, Javid was laid to rest amid sobs and tears.

The other six civilians have been identified as Auqib Ahmad Sheikh son of Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Danow Macanpora, Kulgam; Uzair Ahmad Dar, Class 8 student son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Nayakpora near Kulgam Town; Irshad Ahmad Paddar son of Sayedullah Paddar of Shurat Kulgam; Mansoor Ahmad Dar Son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Bogund Kulgam; Talib Ahmad Laway son of Mohammad Maqbool of Laroo and Mukeen Ahmad Bhat of Laroo.

Besides, more than 40 civilians were injured during clashes with government forces after the later used pellets and bullets tobreak the pro-freedom protests.

Earlier in the wee hours, a gunfight ensued between forces and militants, leading to the killing of three Jaish-e-Mohammad militants including Shahid Ahmad Tantary of Wangam Shopian, Zubair Ahmad Lone of Ahwatoo Kulgam and  Yazil Ahmad Makroo of Arwani Bijbehara. (With inputs from GNS)
