ICPS team locks down Children’s Home for violation of norms

SRINAGAR: A team of the officials of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) locked down a children’s home here for violating various provisions of J&K Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2013 and shifted its inmates to a better facility.

         

The team conducted the surprise inspection of ‘Gulistan Children Home’ run by J&K Ansar ul Masakeen Trust. The inspection was conducted on the instructions of the Mission Director ICPS, G A Sofi and Chairman Selection-cum-Oversight-Committee (SCOC) Justice (retd) Hassnain Masoodi.

        

  The team found that the girl inmates of the Home aged between 5-14 were alone and without any supervision. Besides, 16 out of the total 27 girls were present in the Home at the time of visit and the rest were absconding without any information about their whereabouts.

         

The Home was also found lacking proper facilities and the girls on spot were found cooking the food and doing all other chores all by themselves. The staff of the said home including the security was absconding from the facility at the time of the visit.

         

Later, the ICPS team locked down the Home and transferred all the inmates to a better facility.
