Srinagar: Clashes erupted between government forces and students of the Islamic University of Science and Technology on Tuesday after the students tried to take out a protest march against the killing of slain scholar turned militant Mannan Wani.
Wani along with his accomplice was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Handwara area of northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday last.
Sources said that scores of students took out a protest march from the varsity campus and tried to march towards the Srinagar Jammu highway.
However, a police party intercepted the students triggering clashes. “The students hurled rocks on the government forces who retaliated by firing tear smoke shells.”
The stone pelting clashes between government forces and the students were going on when this report was being filed.
