Srinagar: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) revokes suspension and sedation charges against Kashmiri students after 1200 Kashmir students threatened to quit studies over holding funeral prayers for militant commander Mannan Wani.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor had intervened after local parties had urged him to take up the issue with Centre.

Governor Satya Pal Malik this morning spoke to Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash Javadekar seeking his intervention to ensure smooth studies of the Kashmiri students at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Governor also spoke to Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Tariq Mansoor in this regard.

Malik urged Javadekar and Prof Tariq to ensure that the issue is resolved at the earliest and there is no disruption of studies of the Kashmiri students and they are allowed to continue their studies in a safe, secure and well-disposed academic environment.

Earlier the students in statement had said: “We are firm on our stand that 1200 students from J&K at AMU will return to Kashmir, in case sedition charges are not withdrawn”.

The students appealed the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik to take cognizance of the “fake charges” leveled against Kashmiri students at AMU and get them revoked.

On the other hand student said AMU had constituted a three member committee to probe the incident of 11th Oct. 2018, and it was found that the suspended Kashmiri students were innocent and all the charges against them were false. University has revoked the suspension order.

The report has been sent to district administration to take a call on Sedition Charges.

Since University authorities have cleared the students from all the charges, the sedition and other charges slapped on the students must be immediately revoked. We have deferred the en-masse return program on 17 Oct, 2018, the students stated.

“In case, the sedition charges and other invocated sections are not withdrawn, a new movement will be launched to safeguard the future of students. We will not allow the future of students be jeopardized under any case. Our stand has been vindicated. We are sure that the Kashmiri Scholars charged under fake cases will return to the campus and complete their education,” the student said.
