In Mannan’s killing, Kashmir lost an unparalleled asset: Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik

Srinagar: The top three resistance leaders including octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief Yasin Malik on Friday paid tributes to slain hizb-ul-mujahideen commander and scholar turned militant Mannan Wani.

In a statement, Hurriyat patriarch and Hurriyat Conference (G) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani said that the people will always miss the sharp, focused and fertile brains like that of Manan and these shining diamonds are unparalleled assets of any nation particularly oppressed and suppressed like us.

He said: “We are unfortunate that we lose them so early as their un-dented commitment and visionary intellect would help to smoothen our struggle for our rights.”

Geelani said that the “barbarism and brutality of India has crossed all the limits, pushing youth to wall and then legalizing their killings”.

“For the last 71 years we have seen only the brutal face of India, lived a life of uncertainty, chaos and harassment, have only shouldered the coffins of our dear ones, seen only death and destruction is around. This gloomy situation has forced our high qualified scholars and intellectuals to take the extreme step. They prefer to be a rebellion than to live a life of slavery.”

In a statement Hurriyat Conference (M) paid tributes to Manan Wani and his aide Ashiq Hussain, stating that “the martyrdom of young and educated youth who are great assets of the nation is deeply painful loss.”

Hurriyat (M) said that the complete strike observed across Kashmir to pay homage to Dr Manan Wani sends a strong message to GOI as it reflects peoples deep connect with the cause which the martyrs represent .

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairperson Yasin Malik said that the slain PhD scholar-turned-militant Mannan Bashir Wani represents “our passion for dignity and freedom”.

“In Manan’s words ‘Kashmiris don’t feel dignity in death but feel dignity in fighting but when die whilst fighting illegal military occupation of India, feel dignity in that death too’. How a nation whose sons like Manan Bashir Wani are being snatched by tyrants can vote in elections and strengthen the blood soaked hands of killers and murderers, Malik said in a statement.

He said that from Ishfaq Majeed Wani to Burhan Muzaffar Wani and Manan Bashir Wani, story of passionate struggle and dignified death remains unchanged and in words of great scholar Manan, “Kashmiris don’t feel dignity in death but feel dignity in fighting but when die whilst fighting illegal military occupation of India, feel dignity in that death too”.
