Kashmir municipal polls: Till 1 pm 26% polling in Kupwara, single digit percentage elsewhere

Srinagar: While 26 percent voting was recorded in Kupwara district, the polling percentage remained in single digit in rest of the five districts where voting is going on in first phase of the elections to Urban local bodies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said that till 1 pm around 26 percent voting was recorded in eleven out of thirteen in police district Kupwara.

In two wards there is no contest as two candidates have been declared elected unopposed.

Sources said that in ward number 1, 74 votes were polled (Male 45 and female 29); In ward 6, 91 votes were polled (Male 36 and female 54);in ward 4, 70 votes polled (Male 61 and female 9); in ward 11, 138 votes were polled till 1 pm.

Pertinently, Reyaz Ahmad Mir, brother of senior PDP leader and MP Fayaz Ahmad Mir is contesting for ward number 11.

Meanwhile, polling percentage remained in single digit numbers in five other districts including Anantnag (5%), Srinagar (3.5%), Budgam (3%), Baramulla(3%) and Bandipora(2%), according to the official report issued earlier at 11 am. (With inputs from GNS)
