Kashmir shuts to protest civilian killings, arrest spree

A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir today on Friday against the killing of a civilian by government forces during a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Noorbagh area of Srinagar city on Thursday.

Reports said that all shops, commercial establishments and schools are shut in Srinagar while public transport is off the roads.

The reports of shutdown were also received from the other district headquarters of the valley.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for shutdown and protests today against the killing of Saleem Malik and the arrest of resistance activists.

A JKLF spokesman said that Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence and lodged at Kothibagh police station.
