Jaish commander killed in Tral gunfight as clashes erupt

Militant killed, CASO continues in Pulwama

Srinagar:  A top commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit was killed in an encounter in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday morning.

A senior Police officer told GNS that a top militant commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit was killed in the gunfight. The body of the slain has been recovered along with a weapon and other incriminating material.

The officer identified slain militant as Adnan of Pakistan.

The operation was launched by the joint team of police, army, and CRPF in the area following “credible inputs”.(GNS)

Earlier an encounter ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Sunday, official sources said.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO at village Dr Ganaie Gund Mohalla Aripal, Tral, in Pulwama district early this morning.

However, when  forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, the militants opened fire, they said, adding that security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
