Srinagar: A day after three Jammu and Kashmir policemen were abducted and killed in southern Kashmir’s Shopian district, the government forces including the Army, the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central reserve Police Force on Saturday morning launched a massive cordon and search operation in Pulwama district.

Reports said that at least ten villages have been held under siege and the government forces are conducting door-to-door searches. The villages include Lassipora, Armula, Alaipora, Batnoor, Garbug, Naupora Paeen, Hajdar Pora, Acchan and other villages.

Local sources said that the operation is being conducted by the joint teams of Army’s 55RR, 53RR, 23 Para, SOG and CRPF’s 182,183 BN.

On Friday, militants abducted three policemen from their homes in Shopian villages and later their bullet riddled bodies were recovered from the neighbouring village.

Post killings, a number of SPO’s of Jammu and Kashmir police released videos on social networking sites and announced resignation from their jobs. However, the police and the Ministry of Home Affairs Govt of India have rejected the reports of resignations. They termed the reports as untrue and motivated.

The killings also turned out to be one of the reasons for government of India backing off from a meeting with Pakistan at the sidelines of UN general assembly.
