Hurriyat activists killing: SHRC asks DC Bla, SSP Sopore to file compliance report

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission on Friday issued a notice to the deputy commisoner Baramulla and Superintendent of Police Sopore asking them to file a compliance report into the killing of Hurriyat (G) activist Hakeem-ur-Rahman Sultani who was killed on September 9 by “unidentified gunmen”.

The SHRC notice comes in response to a petition filed by Human Rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.

In a petition, Untoo had urged the SHRC to appoint a fact finding team to probe the killing of Sultani to find out why political workers and common people are being killed.

Untoo has also demanded compensation to the family members of Sultani who has four daughters. Pertinently, the joint resistance leadership had termed the killing as gruesome while as police had blamed militants.
