University hostel boarders protest for the whole night against ‘unhygienic’ food

Srinagar: The hostel boarders of Sheikh ul Alam Boys hostel University of Kashmir have started a hunger strike against the alleged unhygienic food provided by the hostel mess.

The students told The Kashmir Press late last night that five of the students were hospitalised after having dinner at the hostel.

They said that they have assembled at the Sir Syed gate of the varsity and will stage protests till their demands are met.

Today morning the students assembled outside the Vice Chancellors secretariat in protest.

The protesting students told the Kashmir Press that the food served to the hostel boarders is unhygienic and that many boarders in the past have been hospitalised.

The students said that they have raised the issue with the concerned authorities in the past but nothing has changed.

The university authorities told the Kashmir Press that the issue will be looked into and the grievances of the students addressed at the earliest.
