Congress, CPIM hold protests in Srinagar against rising fuel prices

Srinagar: Supporting the Bund call of the central leadership of the party, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of Indian National Congress on Monday held a protest demonstration against the rising fuel prices and “fall in India rupee against US dollar” at Srinagar.

The protest was led by State Congress Chief GA Mir.

Dozens of congress workers also participated in the demonstration raising slogans against the Union Government.

Talking to reporters, Mir said that the promises made by the incumbent Prime Minister during election rallies are proving a hoax.

“The household items are getting expensive day after day, there is a steep rise in fuel prices and the value of rupee is consistently going down against the dollar,” he said.

A similar protest march was also held by Communist Party of India (M) and was led by communist lawmaker Yousaf Targami.

His supporters carried red flags and raised slogans against the government.

Talking to reporters, Targami alleged the Prime Minister of India of turning the lives of the common people into hell.

Stating that the impact of rise in fuel prices trickles down on all sectors of the economy and affects the life of the common man in several ways, the congress chief said: “The bandh has been called to show the ruling government how badly its policies have affected the life of people in the country.”
