Full dress rehearsal held in Kashmir under unprecedented security arrangements

Srinagar:  Despite rain, a full dress rehearsal for the Independence Day (ID) was held at district headquarters on Monday under unprecedented security arrangements in view of the threat perception.

The main function was held at S K Cricket stadium, a high security zone area, where all nearby roads were closed for any traffic movement. Even the pedestrians were being directed to take alternative route. However, traffic was restored after the rehearsal was completed. This is the second successive year when ID function will be held at S K stadium instead of Bakshi stadium on Srinagar-Airport road.

Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan took salute at the march past presented by contingents from Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Paramlitary forces, Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Service and students. The parade followed by musical programme presented by students and other artistes.

Reports of full dress rehearsal were also received from other district headquarters despite rain.

Hundreds of security forces and state police personnel were deployed to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of rehearsal.
