Srinagar: A woman was attacked with sharp blades by an unknown man at her home in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.
The lady identified as Mysooma Bano, 23, daughter of Ali Mohammad Kumar, a resident of Kumar Mohallah Gonipora, Kupwara, suffered multiple injuries and was taken to district hospital Kupwara for treatment.
“The victim has suffered multiple injuries but is out of danger,” Block Medical Officer, Kupwara Fareed Shaheen Chaudhary said.
Police also reached the spot to investigate the matter.
The victim, Mysooma, said she was sitting alone at her home when “suddenly some unknown person knocked at the door and asked the whereabouts of my parents”.
Later, he asked for some rice, Mysooma said.
“As I went into the store and started pouring some rice into his bag, he attacked me with some sharp blades,” she said.
Mysooma said soon after the incident, her relatives living nearby rushed to her rescue but the attacker escaped from the scene.
She said the attacker was wearing a Shalwar Kameez and skull cap and talked in local (Kashmiri) language.
Earlier, a boy from Kachama area of Kupwara was kidnapped by unknown men and had suffered the similar type of injuries.
It is the second such incident in two weeks. (GNS)
