Mumbai: Opening higher by 40 points, the benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) immediately went down on Tuesday by 158.22 points to 37,336.18 as selling was witnessed in Materials, Energy, FMCG, Finance and Telecom stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) too eased by 35.05 points to 11,284.50.

In scrips like Tata Motors DVR, Axis Bank, HDFC and Tata Motors drifted lower in early trade.

The Sensex registered intra day high ane low at 37,534.95 and 37, 298.75 respectively.

The Nifty recorded intra day high and low at 11,312.65 and 11,267.75 respectively.

The losers were Tata Motors DVR by 2.51 pc to Rs 143.50, Axis Bank by 1.69 pc to Rs 558.85, HDFC by 1.59 pc to Rs 1995.75 and VEDL by 1.49 pc to Rs 221.40.

The gainers were Asian Paints by 1.30 pc to Rs 1449.40, HeroMoto Corp by 1.27 pc to Rs 3245.60, Sun Pharma by 1.25 pc to Rs 570.25 and NTPC by 1.69 pc to Rs 2694.45.
