Safety of country cannot be comprised on Rohingya migrants’ issue: Govt

New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) Noting that there are reports with the Home Ministry about some Rohingya migrants indulging in illegal activities, Government in Lok Sabha on Tuesday said safety of citizens of the country is its first priority.

Replying to question on Rohingya refugees/migrants during Question Hour in the House, Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said Rohingyas have entered India as illegal migrants and Government’s first priority is to take care of rights of the citizens of the country.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the Centre had issued latest advisory to state governments and Union Territory administrations in February to identify the Rohingyas who have entered and count them.

The Government has issued instructions to state governments and Union Territory administrations to take  steps for identification of illegal migrants(including Rohingyas), their restriction to specified locations as per provisions of law, capturing their biographic and biometric particulars and cancellation of fake documents in their possession.

The Government has taken up the issue of Rohingya migrants with the Myanmar government. The Union Home Minister said states also have right to deport the Rohingyas. Mr Rijiju said the highest illegal entry of Rohingya migrants is in Jammu and Kashmir, followed by Telangana.

He said there are reports with the Home Ministry about some Rohingya migrants indulging in illegal activities.
