Pilgrimage to holy cave progressing smoothly, over 2.31 lakh paid obeisance so far

Srinagar: Pilgrimage was progressing smoothly as fresh batches of pilgrims left base camps for holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.

Over 2.31 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance since the commencement of 60-day-long yatra from June 28.

About 1,000 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, have darshan of the self-made Ice-Shivlingam since early this morning at the cave shrine situated at 14,000 feet above sea level. With this, a total of over 2.31 lakh had darshan at the cave shrine till this morning.

A yatra official told UNI that a fresh batch of yatris left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine.

The pilgrims are scheduled to reach the cave shrine after covering the 14-km-long hilly track on foot. However, some yatris are covering the distance on horse or pony backs besides dandies. Meanwhile, pilgrims, who had night halt in the camps near cave shrine after darshan, have also started their return journey early this morning.

He said fresh batch of yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for first halting station at Chandanwari on the traditional track.

However, majority of the pilgrims will continue their journey towards the next halting station, they said, adding that the yatris, who had night halt at Chandanwari, also left for next station early this morning.

Over 1,000 pilgrims had paid obeisance at the cave shrine during the past 24 hrs. Pilgrims, who had night halt at camps, are reaching the cave shrine since early this morning to have darshan there. Yesterday, 5,667 yatris had paid obeisance on Saturday.

Till last night 1,30,007 Yatris had the darshan of the Shivling at the Holy Cave since the commencement of the yatra. Majority of the pilgrims had since returned to their homes.
