Imphal: Nine people, including eight children, were killed today due to massive landslides in three different places of Tamenglong district today.

Five children of the same parents were killed in New Salem, Tamenglong ward no. 4. when landslide occurred in the area. Many houses in the hill areas were washed away by the landslide.

Locals said water erupted from the affected areas which carried away the children.

In a nearby area another landslide occurred washing away two siblings.

A woman and her young son were also killed when their house was washed away at Neigailuang, Tamenglong ward no. 2.

District officials and police were helping the people in restoring normalcy and efforts were on to recover all the bodies.

There was panic in the area as the national highway and other roads were cut off due to the landslide.

Fire brigade personnel were also put into service to help the people.
