7th policeman suspended in Tripura having linked with drug racket

Agartal: Continue to the effort against cracking down narcotic rackets in Tripura, the state government last night suspended a Tripura Police Service (TPS) officer for his alleged nexus with the drug paddling gang.

The suspended police officer Tapas Deb was posted at Teliamura of Khowai district
in West Tripura as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).

He is the 7th police men of Tripura has been suspended from the service in last three months after BJP government came in power and launched drive against cannabis and narcotics.

According to report, Deb’s name was referred repeatedly by the arrested policemen and the drug paddlers to the interrogators.

During investigation police also found his involvement in the narcotics network. The
police officer was accused of helping one drug transporter Nirmal Shil to escape from
the case filed against him in exchange of money.

An investigating officer said on June 2016 a lorry carrying illegal cough syrup Phensedyl was intercepted by Teliamura police under the command of the then SDPO Lucky Chouhan.

But later when Tapas Deb took charge of SDPO he influenced the case and ensured final report in the court instead of Chargesheet despite several conclusive evidence of illegal drugs transport.

In the investigation, it was confirmed Deb was involved in racket and accused
Nirmal Shil when arrested then made a confession that he paid huge amount of
money to Deb for ensuring a final report.

“The SDPO Deb was put under suspension pending further investigation into the case,” said SP (Khowai) Krishnendu Chakraborty. UNI
