Omar launches scathing attack on Mehbooba over mowing down of a civilian by CRPF vehicle

A tweet stirs up a heated debate

Srinagar: Omar Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, took a dig at incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over Friday’s horrifying incident in which three civilians were run over by a paramilitary force vehicle during civilian protests outside Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

The junior Abdullah questioned Mehbooba Mufti’s ‘Ramzan ceasefire’ by sending out this tweet: “Earlier they tied people to the fronts of jeeps & paraded them around villages to deter protestors now they just drive their jeeps right over protestors. Is this your new SOP @MehboobaMufti sahiba? Ceasefire means no guns so use jeeps?”

Abdullah was first referring to an incident that took place in central Kashmir’s Budgam district during by-polls when in a shameful act Indian Army’s notorious Major Gogoi tied Farooq Ahmad, a civilian, to the bonnet of his jeep and paraded him through several villages, thus inflicting deep psychological wounds on the civilian.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth leader and Secretary of J&K Sports Council Waheed Parra shot back by reminding Omar Abdullah that “Don’t forget you are the one who said that anyone who pelts stones on security forces is committing suicide @OmarAbdullah Sir.”

Farhana Latief, a Kashmiri researcher, said in response to Parra’s tweet: “Hence, Let’s kill Kashmiris under the army cars & jeeps and call it suicide. Slow Claps Mr. @parawahid !!”
