Special drive launched by traffic police, more than 20 thousand vehicles challaned

Srinagar: In an effort to enforce Motor Vehicle Act, traffic police (rural) has started a holistic drive against traffic violators last month during which over 20 thousand vehicles were challaned.

The drive has been intensified in view of the quantum of the violations which not only impedes the free flow of traffic but also creates inconvenience to both the commuters as well as the pedestrians, the traffic police said.

Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah told The Kashmir press that  24166 vehicles were challaned in the month of May.

“170 were  against non wearing of Seat Belts, 2709 Without driving license , 4396 were against non wearing of uniform, 546 violators were booked under the offence of Overloading, 487 for not wearing of Crash Helmets, 256 for triple riding, ” he said

He also said 242  were challaned for using mobile phone against Use of mobile phone/dangerous driving among other offences while as ,”248 vehicles were seized also”.

“Besides a fine to the tune of Rs. 37,09,123/= was collected from the violators w.e.f. 01, May  2018 to 31 May 2018,” he said.
