Downtown shuts to protest forces ‘highhandedness’

Ahead of traders strike call a complete shutdown is being observed in downtown area of the Srinagar city on Saturday against the alleged highhandedness of government forces.

The call was given by the Jamia Traders Federation against “desecrating” of historic Jamia soon after the government forces went berserk and fired scores of pellets inside the Jamia Masjid after the culmination of Friday prayers.

During the pellet firing scores of youths had sustained injuries, while as dozen of women were also fainted.

Sources said that massive clashes have erupted between protesters and government forces during which locals alleged that police used “brute forces” against the protesters.

Meanwhile all shops, schools and business establishments are shut in the area.
