The 86-km-long Mughal road reopened on Monday after remaining closed for traffic on Sunday due to fresh landslides, triggered by rain.

However, Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) will continue to ply one-way only while Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will operate from both sides, a traffic police official told UNI.

He said traffic on the Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was closed again following fresh landslides early yesterday. However, the district authorities immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the landslide.

He said LMVs will ply from both sides on the road. However, HMV will ply from one side only to avoid any traffic jam as the road is narrow at some place due to huge snow walls on both sides. On Monday HMVs will ply from Rajouri to Srinagar.

Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway and 434-km-long highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir were through for traffic.
