132 persons have died in gun violence till May 06 this year
A person each has died a day during the militancy related incidents in Kashmir this year so far.
Going by the figures compiled by the Home ministry and the Institute of conflict management, which tracks the fatalities during the militancy related incidents in Kashmir, since the year 2012 around 1,223 persons including 698 militants, 158 civilians and 367 members of government forces have been killed.
The figures also throw an interesting observation as the causality figure shows a dramatic uptick in the past two years, indicating that Kashmir is going through a bloody phase of insurgency with more militant, civilian, and government force’s killing being recorded.
According to the figures, up to May 06 this year, 72 militants, 32 civilians and 28 personnel of government forces including army men were killed during the various gun battles.
The year 2017 registered the highest number of fatalities in past six years.
342 incidents of militancy related incidents were registered during which 333 persons were killed including 213 militants, 40 civilians and 80 troopers.

In the year 2016, gun violence began to show a sharp rise with total of 322 incidents being registered during which a total of 247 people were killed including 150 militants, 15 civilians and 82 troopers.
The year 2015 gave a substantial indication that militancy was on the rise in Kashmir, though, it seemed it will not surge like it did in the current year 2018.
A total of 208 incidents of militancy were registered during which 108 militants, 17 civilians, and 39 troopers were killed.
The year 2014 witnessed 222 incidents of militancy in which 110 militants, 28 civilians, and 47 troopers were killed.
The year 2017 registered the highest number of fatalities in past six years.
Compared to previous years, 2013 registered lowest number of 170 gun violence incidents during which 67 militants, 15 civilians, and 53 troopers were killed.
The year 2012 witnessed the lowest number of killings as far as militants were concerned. In the 220 militancy related incidents, 50 militants, 11 civilians and 38 troopers were killed.
