Hurriyat G condemns the arrest of its leaders, activists

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to slain Drubgam Pulwama youth, including Sameer Ahmad Bhat aka Tiger, Aaqib Ahmad Wani and teenager Shahid Ahmad Bhat.

“Our youth lay their lives to end the age-old slavery of their nation & putting a huge responsibility on our shoulders to honor these sacrifices and take the movement to its logical end,” Geelani said in a statement.

“Our youth are sacrificing their present for the betterment of our tomorrow.”

“We should never barter their sacrifices for petty material gains like employment and development and never should we extend our support to those showering bullets and pellets,” he stated.

Meanwhile, decrying authorities for their ‘authoritarian approach’, Hurriyat (G) strongly termed it as “dictatorial” for the decision of authorities to put political leaders and activist’s in house detention.

“The arrests and detention of its leaders and activists including Mohd Ashraf Sehrai, Haji Gh Nabi Sumji, Gh Ahmad Gulzar, Aga Syed Hassan Almosvi, Bilal Sidiqee, Mohd Ashraf Laya, Omer Adil Dar and Syed Imtiyaz Hyder is unjustified,” said Hurriyat.

“It is a deliberate attempt to keep the leaders away from masses,” Hurriyat said, and added that authorities feel scare about people’s sentiments and lay undue curbs and restrictions. “No one can stop us from our mission,” the statement said, appealing international community for their cognizance and asked to play its role and feel the pain, people are facing due to continuous and forced occupation
