Kabul: About eight Islamic State (IS) militants were killed following a NATO-led coalition forces’ drone airstrike in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar, the military said on Friday.

“Eight IS militants were killed following an airstrike conducted by unmanned plane of coalition forces in Khogyani district on Thursday,” Afghan army Corps Selab based in the region said in a statement.

Those among the killed was an IS local commander named Abuzar, the statement said, adding no civilian was hurt during the sortie.

The mountainous province, 120 km east of Kabul, has been the scene of clashes between security forces and IS militants from time to time.

Afghan Air Force and NATO-led coalition forces have increased launching airstrikes against militants across the country recently.

The militant group has not made a comment on the report so far.  UNI
