SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah met President Droupadi Murmu, along with 31 opposition MPs on Wednesday to seek her intervention in the Manipur, Harayana crisis.
During his interaction with President Murmu, Farooq expressed that India, being a diverse country with various religions, cannot afford to have communal riots. “Such incidents are intended to destabilize the nation. Every individual has the right to practice their religion, a fundamental principle enshrined in the constitution of India,” reads a statement issued by NC.
He lamented that such incidents are tarnishing the secular identity of the country and called upon President Murmu to take necessary measures to restore a sense of relief and unity among citizens.
Dr Farooq underscored the consequences of allowing hate-driven crimes to go unchecked, warning that they could have a cascading effect on other regions. He called for stringent action against those responsible for the communal riots in Manipur, Haryana, and the killing spree on Train where a RPF constable killed his senior officer and three Muslims passengers.
