SRINAGAR: Police on Monday said that they have formally arrested 10 persons in a case related to the conspiracy of reviving the banned organizations JKLF and Hurriyat.

In a handout, the police said that in this regard, a case FIR No 23/2023 under sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, as well as section 121A of the IPC, has already been registered at Police Station Kothibagh.

The spokesman further stated that the arrested persons and others were planning to revive these organizations on the directions of Pakistan-based handlers. This meeting was an overt attempt to start working for the revival of these moribund organisations, he said.

Initial investigations have also revealed that they were in touch with entities based abroad. Some of them were members of many groups that propagate secessionism, such as the Kashmir Global Council headed by Farooq Siddiqui and Raja Muzaffer of JKLF, he said.

Under the guise of a manufactured pretext, this meeting, which took place, had the real agenda of discussing the strategy of revival. Initial investigations have also revealed that a similar preliminary meeting took place on June 13, 2023, which was attended by most of them, he said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, son of Gh Mohd Bhat, resident of Nigeenbagh Sgr; Mohammad Rafiq Pahloo, son of Gh Hassan, resident of Natipora; Shams u din Rehmani, son of Amir Ahmad, resident of Lalbazar; Jahangeer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Gani Bhat, resident of Batengo Sopore; Khurshid Ah Bhat, son of Gh Mohd, resident of Rawalpora; Shabir Ah Dar, son of Gh Nabi, resident of Badamwari Sopore; Sajad Hussain Gul, son of Ab Hamid, resident of Panthachowk, Srinagar; Firdous Ah Shah, son of Ali Mohammad, resident of Abiguzar Srinagar; Parray Hassan Firdous, son of Ab Rashid, resident of Lawaypora Srinagar; and Sohail Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Salam, resident of Peerbagh, Budgam, he said.

Investigation in the case is in full swing, and some more arrests are likely to take place, reads the statement. gns
