Sumbal, Feb 21: Deputy Inspector General  of Police(DIG), north Kashmir range Udaya Bhaskar on Monday said that the sports programme conducted by Jammu and Kashmir police is to prevent youth from joining militancy and other unlawful activities.

“More sports activities and tournaments will be organised to keep the youth away from militancy, drugs and other unlawful activities across north Kashmir,” the DIG north Kashmir said, on the sidelines of the spring sports festival being held at Sumbal.

“The main purpose of the spring sports festival programme under which we have started the volleyball tournament in Sumbal today is to protect the youth from joining militancy and to keep them away from drugs,” Bhaskar said.

“We will engage and encourage youth in sports activities for the well-being of their mental and physical health,” he said, adding the overall situation across north Kashmir is so peaceful while anti- militancy operations are being carried out. “For development, peace is very important so I hope that peace will continue,” he said.

About drugs, the DIG said that the police are keeping a close eye on drug peddlers and at the same time, we are implementing legal action also. He requested parents to pay attention to these things and inform the police to eliminate it.
