Sopore, May 04: Two days old militant among two killed in a gunfight that broke out in north Kashmir’s Sopore outskirts on Tuesday officials said.

An official said that a foreign militant involved in the killing of two councilors and a police cop is among two militants killed in an encounter at Nathipora area of Sopore.

He said a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF sealed Nathipora area of Sopore following inputs about the presence of militants.

As soon as searching party encircled the target house the hiding militants fired upon them thus triggering a gunfight.

In the operation two militants have been killed among one a foreign who was behind the municipal councilor Sopore attack and a two days old militant.

Sources said that two days old militant identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone a resident of Hathlangoo is among the two slain militants.

Pertinently, on Sunday his family made an appeal on social media asking him to return home.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar earlier informed that among the trapped militants, one is foreign who is involved in the killing of two councilors and a policeman.

However, as a precautionary measure authorities suspended internet services in the area to maintain law and order situation.
