Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said that Governor Satya Pal Malik’s decision to reverse her government’s order to exempt women from paying stamp duty on property registration, had negated her efforts toward women empowerment.

“As far as empowering women is concerned, all our efforts are negated by the Governors recent decision. One fails to understand why my govt’s historic decision to levy no stamp duty on property registered in the names of females was revoked,” Ms Mehbooba, who was the chief minister in previous PDP-BJP government, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

She said women contribute the most to the world’s wealth but hardly own any assets. “GoI’s (Government of India’s) Beti Bachao Beti Padao programme is simply hogwash. Time for them to walk the talk,” she added.
