Srinagar: A gunfight ensued between government forces and militants in Pulwama village of southern Kashmir on Friday morning.

Sources said that the gunfight erupted in Renzipora village of the district after a joint team of government forces including Army, Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operations Group and CRPF paramilitary forces cordoned the village.

“As the cordon was going on, the militants hiding in a house fired on government forces to break the cordon and flee from the spot,” they said. The gunfire was retaliated by the government forces triggering a gunfight, they said.

Meanwhile authorities have snapped the mobile internet services in the district. The decision is routinely taken during such situations and police say it is done to “maintain law and order”.
