GoI Reduces Price of Cooking Gas By Rs 200

SRINAGAR: In a move that will bring relief to households across the country, the Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced a substantial reduction in the price of cooking gas.

Effective from August 30, 2023, the price of a 14.2 Kg LPG cylinder will be lowered by Rs 200 in all markets across the country, according to an official communiqué issued.

In Delhi, this decision will lower the cost of a 14.2 Kg cylinder from the existing Rs 1103 per cylinder to a more affordable Rs 903 per cylinder. This reduction applies to all consumers and is in addition to the existing targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to PMUY households, which will continue.

For PMUY households in Delhi, the effective price after this reduction will be Rs 703 per cylinder. It’s important to note that there are more than 31 crore domestic LPG consumers in the country, including 9.6 crore PMUY beneficiary families, and this reduction will benefit all LPG consumers nationwide.

To address pending PMUY applications and provide deposit-free LPG connections to eligible households, the Government will soon distribute PMUY connections to 75 lakh women from poor households without an existing LPG connection. This will increase the total number of PMUY beneficiaries from 9.6 crore to 10.35 crore, according to the official communiqué.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating, “We understand the challenges faced by households in managing their budgets. The reduction in cooking gas prices aims to provide direct relief to families and individuals, while also supporting the Government’s larger goal of ensuring affordable access to essential items.” kno
