Amid massive anti-militancy ops, defence minister Rajnath Singh visits Rajouri

Srinagar, May 06: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday visited Rajouri to take security assessment amid the ongoing anti-militancy operation in Kandi forest area in which 5 army soldiers were killed with army saying a militant has also been killed.

An official said that Rajnath Singh landed in Jammu today morning where he was received by Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and other senior officers.

He said that later Singh headed to Rajouri to take a security assessment amid the ongoing anti-militancy operation in Kandi forest area.

“Rajnath Singh interacted with the Army soldiers and also took a security review and other aspects with the senior army and police officials amid the operation,”

Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh on his official Twitter handle informed that he reviewed the operation capabilities and security situation along the border.

“Visited the Army Base Camp in Rajouri, J&K today. Reviewed the operational capabilities and security situation along the border. Also, interacted with the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. India salutes their devotion towards protecting our motherland,” he tweeted.

On Friday, 5 army soldiers were killed and an officer was injured after militants triggered a blast during an encounter in Kandi forest area on Friday.

Earlier, today army said that a militant has been killed while another one is likely injured as the operation resumed in Kandi forest area. kns
