Sarpanch escapes unhurt in suspected militant attack in Pulwama

Pulwama, Mar 12: A pistol-borne suspected militant fired upon a Sarpanch in presence of some of the officers from the Rural Development Department in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The fire missed the target and Sarpanch escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred near ‘Laar Kul’ in Aarihal area of the district when R&D Department officers and the Sarpanch were inspecting the construction work being executed by the Sarpanch.

Divulging information about the incident, an associate of the Sarpanch who was present on the spot said  that Sarpanch Ghulam Nabi Kumar of Panchayat Halqa Aarihal-B was busy in showing the progress of construction work at ‘Lar Kul’, when a man appeared from a district and fired from his pistol.

“The bullet missed the target and we fled away from the spot. The Sarpanch is safe,” he said adding that it was apparently a bid on the life of the Sarpanch.

Police rushed to the spot to assess the situation. (KNT)
