Hyderpora Encounter: Lawyers stage sit-in in Southern Anantnag, demanding return of bodies

Anantnag, Nov 18: Lawyers in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a sit-in in the premises of District Court demanding return of bodies killed in Hyderpora Srinagar encounter.

At least four persons were killed in Hyderpora Srinagar encounter. Police said that the slain were militants and their associates, however, families of three persons are contesting the police claim saying they were innocent and had nothing to do with militancy.

Reports said that in a bid to press for demand of return the bodies to families, Anantnag Bar Association staged peaceful sit-in. The lawyers also demanded a neutral probe into the Hyderpora encounter.

Regarding the protest, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also retweeted a photograph of Advocate Amree carrying a placard seeking justice for her brother Imran Qayoom.

The retweet of Mehbooba Mufti read: “Advocate Amreen, sister of Imran Quyoom joined the lawyers in Anantnag protesting to demand justice to victim families of Hyderpora. Imran, her brother was killed on July 25, 2021 in Kulgam during an encounter. The forces said he was a militant, a claim denied by the family.” knt
