People of Kashmir enthusiastic to help each other: Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta

Srinagar, Oct 01: The government on Friday said that the people of Kashmir have proved that they are enthusiastic for helping each other.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta in the sidelines of an event National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2021 said, “Keeping in view the blood donation camp clearly shows how people are enthusiastic about helping each other.”

Mehta said, “The government has always recognised the blood donors as the vital part of the society and have given them recognition for their efforts.”

He further said that the blood donation is beneficial for the health of a donor if done systematically.

Meanwhile, the Director Health Services Kashmir (DSEK Mushtaq Ahmad Rather in the event conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society said, “Every year on October-01, a blood donation camp is being organized all over the globe and here in Jammu and Kashmir, Red Cross Society also organised the camp.”

He said that the event which was presided over by the chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rather said, “Besides blood donation, the camp was meant to clear the misconceptions, myths and confusion among the people having negative thoughts of the donation.”

The director further said that with the help of awareness programs conducted by the government earlier, people are coming to donate blood in large numbers.

“Not only young people, teenagers are coming to fore to help humanity by donating blood,” he said.

Stating the benefits of donating blood, Rather said that it is beneficial for donors as they have to undergo different health screening tests of five deadly diseases like HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis-B and C, Malaria and Syphilis.

“Besides, haemoglobin of the donor is also checked including the proper functioning of vitals,” he said.

Speaking about containing the possible Wave-III of the pandemic, Rather said, “DHSK is hopeful that it will manage the Wave-III efficiently.”

He said that there was no shortage of oxygen cylinders, beds, vaccines or medicines.

Rather appealed to the people to follow the recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

He said, “Permanent lockdown is not the solution, we have to live our lives and have to fight against the virus.”

Rather further said that the best solution to prevent the spread of virus was to follow the Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB). kno
